Danish pioneer of all-digital audio amplification (founded 1997 in Copenhagen by Lars Risbo). Acquired by Texas Instruments in 2000, where its PWM amplifier technology became the foundation of TI's PurePath Digital products.
Toccata Technology (founded 1997 in Copenhagen by Lars Risbo) pioneered all-digital audio amplification. Building on Danish university research dating back to 1993, it moved from pulse-density modulation to pulse-width-modulation (PWM) power amplifiers that combined high fidelity with high efficiency, completing a prototype PWM amplifier in 1995. Texas Instruments acquired Toccata in March 2000 and built its PurePath Digital audio amplifier line on the technology; founder Lars Risbo went on to be named a TI Fellow.
