New SDU section (est. 2024) led by Prof. Farshad Moradi. Ultra-low-power IC design for biomedical implants, neuromorphic computing, spintronics, and brain-computer interfaces.

Semiconductor activity in Denmark

SDU Microelectronics is a newly established section (2024/2025) at the University of Southern Denmark's Faculty of Engineering, led by Prof. Farshad Moradi (formerly Aarhus University). The group of ~30 members (9 faculty/researchers + 15 PhD students + support) specialises in ultra-low-power CMOS IC design for biomedical applications, neuromorphic computing, and spintronics. They have taped out a 16-core spiking neural network chip in 28nm CMOS and multi-core neuromorphic processors in 180nm and 28nm FDSOI. Research spans brain-computer interfaces (NeuroMate project), magnetic tunnel junction computing, energy harvesting ICs, and cryogenic CMOS design. The move to SDU was motivated by proximity to Odense University Hospital for clinical biomedical IC applications.
