Merus Audio was a DTU spinout, founded in 2010 in Copenhagen by Hans Hasselby-Andersen and Mikkel Hoyerby, that developed energy-efficient multilevel Class-D audio amplifier ICs. Its patented multilevel switching (three- and five-level "cascading converter" modulation) cut total harmonic distortion and noise while reducing heat and extending battery playback time, targeting smart-home and battery-powered speakers. The company grew to roughly 18 people before Infineon Technologies acquired it in February 2018, folding it into the Power Management & Multimarket division. The technology became Infineon's MERUS™ product line, and the Copenhagen team continues as Infineon's Danish audio design centre.
